Brian and I are getting married on September 30. Our plan was to leave soon after and take a long family train trip, but my parents are insisting on (and paying for!) a reception in mid-October so that members of our extended families who can't get to Memphis on September 30 have an opportunity to meet my new "instant family" and celebrate with us.
I don't mind having the reception and I actually think it's a really nice idea (one that my parents agree on for a major change), and it's really generous of them to host it for us. I am getting married in simple canvas sneakers (because it's hard to find suitable dress shoes for 14EEEE feet!), and as long as I don't have to wear heels for pictures, I will be happy. Sally is more excited about turning 5 on October 1 than anything else, and she's just happy to be wherever Brian and I are, and included in whatever we're doing. Brian...is not that interested in music for a reception that he doesn't really want to have. We've been friends since we were born and already know each others families. He's met my entire family and still wants to marry me...
When Daniel and I got married, I picked the first song I heard on the radio after the ceremony for the reception (which we didn't actually have until January 2005 because of my exam schedule), which was Madonna's "Live to Tell". For my reception with Brian and Sally, I've narrowed it down to Journey's "Faithfully" or "As" by Stevie Wonder. Sally's favorite songs are "Freak Flag" from Shrek the Musical and "I Like to Move It" from the Madagascar soundtrack, but I have pretty much ruled those out. I am leaning towards "As" because it doesn't seem to be as well known as the Journey song, but I'm not really good at picking music so I'm open to other suggestions, opinions and inspiration.
