Shrek the Musical is coming to Chicago and opens on 7/13/2010 (Tuesday)! I REALLY want to go, but not by myself. Brian and Sally will be out of the country, my parents and siblings are busy/not interested, and I don't have any girlfriends in real life (only online), so it would be a solo trip, and solo trips are lonely. I am going to go even if I have to go alone but it would be "fun-ner" with friends, so... Would anyone else like to go see Shrek with me? I know that most people won't have the whole week free, but I would love to meet up for at least a "Shrek Trek 2010"[/color] girls weekend in Chicago! Tickets don't go on sale to the public until 2/14/2010, but if I can find 10-14 other seriously interested people, we can buy group tickets now and get a group rate at a hotel/hostel. Since the performance I want to see is an evening show (I don't really like matinees.), we can plan some daytime activities, too. I have been through both airports, Union (Amtrak) Station, the Harold Washington Library and the Northwestern University campus, but I've never actually seen Chicago's main sites/tourist attractions! Your costs would include: * round-trip transportation to CHI * cost of the ticket (probably a discounted group rate, paid in advance) * cost of whatever lodging we use (again, group rate) * meals, sight-seeing, shopping, etc. If I go by myself for just a few days (Monday - Wednesday or Friday - Sunday), the total cost of my trip would be less than $350. Post here if you might be interested and I will make some calls about group pricing tomorrow!

I have calls in to the box office and a few hotels, but it's hard for Group Sales Consultants to give me an accurate quote without knowing exactly how many people are are in the group or how long we plan to stay.
No one in my 'real life' is interested in going, so it looks like it's just you and me so far, Ramona. If our number doesn't change, I will just buy 2 tickets on 2/14/2010 and you and I will go together! 2 is a group, right? Yay for Shrek!

Hey Kathleen! I have seriously been considering this. I just haven't responded yet. I was thinking that this would be something cool that we could do every year. Maybe even go to a different place each year. I am in NEED of a getaway! I would probably have to fly to Chicago, and when I checked the other day I can get a pretty cheap flight.

Yes, come with us Amanda! We'll have so much fun! Shrek is a really fun show, and everyone I know says Chicago is an amazing city. Half my dad's family went to Northwestern and they all still rave about it. Brian and Sally will be in Mexico visiting her maternal grandparents for 2 months. I have to work for most of the time they'll be gone, but I get 2 consecutive weeks off in July, and I don't want to spend them alone. I didn't know about the second vacation week until today, so now that I have the extra time maybe we can do a weekend in Chicago and one in another city too! I will put your name on my 2/14/2010 list!

Kathleen, I have looked at this thread over and over again. I would LOVE to go, but i need to talk to my parents, and if i could go, it would most likely be me and my mom, seeing as how i'm still "too young to travel that far by myself" I will find out something before the new year. I have to wait til' everyone is in a good mood. lol

I know your parents trust you to be careful and responsible, Nicole, it's just everyone else in the world...I'm going on 25 and my parents still worry about me traveling alone!
If your parents would trust you to travel to CHI alone you would have plenty of responsible adults to look after you, but your mom would also be welcome to join in the fun - the more the merrier!

As much as I'd like to visit Chicago, my dh already thinks I am crazy for creating these online relationships. It scares him when he hears about me going to meet someone from the sales board. Good news, even living in Memphis, none of you have killed me yet! lol!

I hate school. If I wasn't going to be in class during that time, I would looove to go.

You guys crack me up! Scary babies lol. I can't speak for everyone here, but I can promise you that Mrs. Carpenter is (mostly) harmless good company - not 100% sane, but not an axe murderer either. Assuming that I'm still able to travel in mid-July, I will be so pregnant that you'll all be able to outrun me.

If you go, let me know the dates. I would love to try and meet up for dinner one night. Chicago is one of my favorite cities.
