I've compiled a (very) long list of books that I would like to read, eventually. Generally, I pick books by their cover (it usually works out well!), without reading the back, and I was hoping that, if I posted my list, you all would help me out by telling me what you thought of the ones you may have read! Water for Elephants - Fantastic. I absolutely loved this book, totally recommend it.

Chuck Palahniuk - His books are eerie, but very well done. Don't worry if you're confused at first, it (usually) makes sense in the end.

The Shack - I haven't personally read this, but I don't think it sounds appealing, and my mother disliked it immensely.

Sloppy Firsts - I loved this when I first read it, but it's very much a light chick-lit read. I no longer enjoy it much.

Memoirs of a Geisha - Very nicely done. Moving, and worth the time it takes to read.

i've definitely been wondering about "the shack"...it seems like it's very religiously driven and, while i consider myself a religious person, it's not something i want to read about for "enjoyment".

To put a bit of perspective on it, my mother is mildly religious; I am not in the slightest. So I know that a good heft of my disinterest in the book has to do with my beliefs.

Wally Lamb, She's Come Undone is my favorite all-time book. Give it a chance at first, you will love it

Erin - that's a very ambitious and eclectic list! I'm a (retired) librarian and am thrilled to see such an interest in reading. I'm ashamed to say that there are a lot of authors on the list with whom I'm unfamiliar, but will investigate.

I've also read other books by Erik Larson (The Devil In The White City) and Alice Sebold (The Lovely Bones & Lucky).
My mom instilled in me as a young child that reading is fun...LOL...hence my huge list. I'm pretty much not allowed into Barnes & Noble because, inevitably, I will walk out with 3 or 4 new books.

GINNY - WOW! Fantastic list of books. What a great bond you and the other members of your book club must have. 18 years and still going strong. What a testimony to friendship ... and perseverance!!

ERIN - While some haven't taken a shine to this book, I actually really enjoyed The Shack (William P Young). Regardless of where you are with your faith, it provides a lot to think about and ponder. It's a pretty quick read. I encourage you (and others) to give it a chance. Just my 2 cents.
